Thankful Friday

It's been a rough couple of days around here, so I confess this is a challenge! Yet, I know I have tons to be thankful for. It's just putting it into words that seems a little difficult today.
  • The rain
  • Isaac saying "mama" (even if he doesn't know what that means, but I like to think he does)
  • Jonah snuggling up to me and thanking me for giving him medicine to make him feel better
  • Chad going above and beyond to run errands and pick up dinner so I can tend to the kids (who aren't feeling well) and not have to go out in the rain
  • The chance to do something nice for other people - my circle group is planting flowers at the crisis pregnancy center tomorrow
  • Cool fall breezes and not having to run the a/c OR the heat
  • abc.com - so I can catch up on TV shows I missed :-)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

We're back...

We're back from the doctor's. My little guy is just over 24 lbs (+1.6 oz) and is 31" long. He's doing great - except for one thing. He has what is called a penile adhesion. Basically his circumcision is growing back - reattaching. The doctor tried pushing it back - as you can imagine, that was most unpleasant - for all of us. We will be seeing a urologist soon and he may have to have the circ done again. I feel so sad for my little guy. In addition to getting messed with all down there, he also got a flu shot - double whammy. He was a trooper, though. He was fast asleep within 2 minutes of us getting home. Now I really wish our afternoon wasn't going to be so busy. And the icing on the cake - it's raining - and just where do you think the umbrella was when we left the doctor's office?? Yep - it was in the truck. :-)

Late start and other random happenings

So today is Wednesday...again. If you recall my post last Wednesday, you remember that Wednesdays are pretty hectic around here. Yet, thanks to a little thing called "late start", today actually started out pretty relaxing. Once a month, on a Wednesday no less, school begins 2 hours later than normal - thus, "late start." The purpose of this is to allow teachers to have meetings/planning time without them having to work late afternoons or evenings. How nice. For us, this meant we got to lounge around and stay in bed all morning. Ok, not really - Isaac wouldn't allow it. However, Jonah did actually sleep until almost 8:00!! I don't even remember the last time he did that - not even on a Saturday. I'm really glad, though, because once I pick him up from school, it's non-stop until bedtime. So right now Isaac is napping and I'm blogging. Unfortunately, I'll have to get Isaac up shortly so we can go for his 9 month check-up. Yes, I realize he will be 10 months in 2 days....better late than never, right?

In other news...Chad is sick...again. He was running a fever last night and felt pukey. Oh joy. He did manage to get up and go to work this morning. We'll see if that lasts. Meanwhile, the rest of us are wearing face masks and keeping ourselves shielded by a cloud of Lysol. I'm kidding about the face masks....kind of. :-)

Finally- Jonah's 6th birthday party is coming up 2 weeks from Saturday. He has opted for a bowling party this year. I printed his invitations yesterday and will be getting them in the mail hopefully tomorrow. I posted a copy of it below. Hope everyone has a great day!

What the boys are up to...

Jonah had his first soccer game on Saturday. The coach asked him to play goalie! He did an awesome job staying focused and not letting the other team score! Here are a few pics I took at the game...

Isaac is doing great, as well! He's starting to feed himself finally. He's also pulling up and starting to cruise. He loves to pull up and stand in his crib. Chad lowered the mattress to the middle setting when he first started pulling up. Yesterday afternoon Chad went in to check on him (when he was supposed to be taking a nap) only to find him bent over the front rail, head down, about to take a dive straight to the floor. Talk about a heart attack!! Chad immediately lowered the mattress to the lowest position. It's amazing how quickly Isaac is learning these "tricks!" Here's a little video and some pics of Isaac enjoying a snack...

Thankful Friday

A few of the bloggers I read have a tradition of doing weekly "Thankful Friday" threads. How could I not adopt such a neat idea?? Here goes nothing...
  • Friends who love and accept me despite my faults and knack for sticking my foot in my mouth
  • A sweet, even-tempered baby boy who loves his crib and puts himself to sleep for every nap and every night without a fuss...and who sleeps 11-12 hours a night...even when he's teething
  • A smart, cute, adventurous 5 (almost 6!) year old who only got ONE stick pulled at school this week and who has his very first soccer game tomorrow morning!
  • A husband who loves me and provides for our family without complaint even when his job demands much more of him than any one person should really ever have to deal with
  • The pumpkin pie candle in my kitchen
  • My new vacuum cleaner
  • Tide with a touch of Downy...April Fresh :-)
  • Swiffer dusters

Oh...and um...pumpkin cheesecake!

Dinner with the girls

All I can say is...YUM!!

For starters...
The main course...Chicken Alfredo
Dessert...Pumpkin Cheesecake
(Available for a limited time - in other words, hurry!!)
After our FABULOUS and DELICIOUS dinner, I took a piece of pumpkin cheesecake to my dear friend, Marlene, who was unable to join us because she had to work. It just so happens that Marlene is a nurse tech on the mom/baby floor of the hospital where both Jonah and Isaac were born. It was really strange going up there thinking that the last time I was there was for Isaac's birth! Admittedly, I got a little choked up when I went through the double doors to go down the hall to the nurse's station. In just 27 (almost 26 - it's almost midnight!) days, my baby boy...my first baby boy...will be 6 YEARS OLD! 6 years....wow. If that weren't hard enough, my second baby boy is trying his hardest not to be a baby anymore! He's crawling like a champ, pulling up and letting go (only to give me a HEART ATTACK) and is getting less cuddly and more wiggly every day. Sigh. I told Chad right after Isaac was born that "we are done." Funny how things change...and no, that's no indication that I've changed my mind or that I would even consider a third child anytime soon. I'll just say that my little trip to the hospital brought back some really precious memories....and gave me a slight...teeny tiny...itch. Tiny, y'all...tiny. :-)

Girl's Night Out!

I am SO excited - I just had to share. Tonight I am going out to The Olive Garden for a "reunion" with my Summer Bible study group! We were supposed to go last Thursday, but the gas shortage left our gracious hostess stuck at home with only 1/2 a tank, so we rescheduled for tonight. The Olive Garden is by far one of my favorite restaurants, but the past two times I've planned to go, something has happened. Chad and I had plans to go there for my birthday, but he ended up getting sick. Last week, as I explained, it just didn't work out. I am praying that nothing happens today to interfere with tonight!
